FAQ

When analysing the AFL Membership Service Centre inbound calls and email enquiries, some common trends were noted throughout the season. Following is a list of frequently asked questions regarding AFL Membership.
  • After signing up as an AFL Member, when am I likely to receive my AFL membership card?

If joining prior to January 25, 2013, your AFL Membership card will be mailed in early February, 2013, prior to the commencement of the 2013 NAB Cup. If joining after this time, there is a 10-day turnaround for card fulfilment.
  • After renewing, when am I likely to receive my card?

If renewing prior to January 25, 2013, your AFL Membership card will be mailed in early February, 2013. If your Membership application is lodged after this time, there is a 10-day turnaround for card fulfilment.
  • Can I attend matches with an Absentee Membership?

An Absentee Membership does not include match or finals entitlements; it simply is a holding fee for your membership status. The AFL does, however, issue Adult Absentee Members with two MCG AFL Reserve single use guest passes (valued at $62) which can be used for a walk-up match during the home and away season. Please note that guest passes will only be sent to Adult Absentee Members who renew by June 30, 2013.
  • Does an AFL Family Membership exist?

The AFL does not have a specific family membership, but does have a family discount offer available to eligible members. To be eligible for an AFL Membership family discount, there must be two full-fee paying parents (adult members with no concessions) and one full-fee paying junior residing at the one address.

Any additional immediate junior family members (Under 17) residing at that address will be provided with a complimentary Membership upon payment of the junior joining fee. Proof of residency for both parents (i.e. a copy of a utilities bill) is required when lodging an application for a family discount.

When applying for this discount, please staple together all application forms and clearly label 'Family Discount' on the top right hand corner of each page.
  • What is the Junior Policy within the AFL Reserve?

Juniors under the age of six as at January 1, do not require an AFL Junior Membership or Junior Guest Pass, and are able to enter the AFL Reserve free of charge, however they must not occupy a seat where seats are at a premium (reserved seat ticket events).

Juniors over the age of six, as at January 1, and under the age of 17, as at January 1, will be required to obtain an AFL Junior Membership or Junior Guest Pass to enter the AFL Reserve.
  • What is an AFL Under 7 Membership?

An AFL Under 7 Membership is a good idea for children who regularly attend the football with their family and have not yet reached the eligible age for a Junior Silver Membership. By paying the AFL Membership Junior joining fee of $220 prior to your child reaching the eligible age, your child will become an Under 7 Member. The benefits of Under 7 Membership include an Under 7 membership card, which will allow your child to purchase reserved seating with the rest of your family (up until Week 2 of the Toyota AFL Finals Series only) and, as an Under 7 Member, your child will be placed on the waiting list for AFL Full  Membership.
  • I am eligible for a Concession Membership in 2013. What can I do if I want to join before I receive my identification?

If you will be eligible for a concession membership for the 2013 Premiership Season, but do not have the required documentation at the time of renewal, the following options are available:

    • Join as an adult member on the AFL Advance part-payment plan. The monthly instalments deducted prior to the lodgment of your concession documents will be based on the adult monthly instalment. Once your concession documents are submitted, the instalments will be adjusted to reflect the remaining amount owing on your concession membership. Please note that concession documentation must be lodged by June 30, 2013, to receive the concession membership rate.
    • Pay the adult renewal invoice in full and apply in writing for a refund of the difference between the adult and concession membership prices once you have the required documentation. Please note that concession refunds must be lodged by close of business on June 30, 2013.
  • My name has recently changed. How can I update this?

In order to change your first name / surname details, we require a copy of a legal document stating your change of name. For example, a marriage certificate.

Upon receipt of this documentation, your account will be updated.

Legal documents can be provided to AFL Membership via email membership@afl.com.au or post to GPO Box 5275 Melbourne 3001
  • Can I give my AFL Membership card to friends and family to use?

AFL Membership is a nontransferable product, meaning that only the person whose name is on the card is entitled to use the benefits.

Signature checks are randomly conducted throughout the season and if your membership card is found to be used by another person, the membership will automatically be cancelled and all monies paid forfeited.
  • As an AFL Member how can I continue to support my club?

By nominating your club of support you will be counted as an official member of your club and directly contribute a portion from your membership fee to that particular club. You will continue to receive all club communications and your years of support for membership at your club will remain.
  • Can I attend matches at venues other than the MCG and Etihad Stadium?

AFL Members do not have access to Simonds Stadium and non-Victorian venues as part of the standard AFL Membership package due to individual clubs, not the AFL, coordinating their respective venues.

Club Support packages for Geelong or a non-Victorian team have entry entitlements to their respective club's home matches because the Club Support fee contributes to gate entry costs. Entry is subject to capacity and some venues may require AFL Members to purchase a club-reserved seat package or a match-specific reserved seat to guarantee entry.

  • How can I become an AFL Full Member?

When joining as an AFL Silver Member, your membership number is automatically placed on the Full
Membership waiting list and acts as your place in the queue. The number of Silver Members invited to upgrade to AFL Full Membership annually is dependent on the number of Full Members who do not renew their membership.

We are unable to estimate how long it will take to be offered Full Membership due to the unpredictability of renewal numbers each season, however we will advise you of your place in the queue on an annual basis during the renewal period.

  • Where can I find information relating to AFL Members’ reserved seat and guest pass on-sale dates for the 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership Season?

All information required to maximize the benefits of your 2013 AFL Membership, including details on when Members can access reserved seats and guest passes for MCG and Etihad Stadium matches, will be included in the AFL Members' Information Handbook, which will be mailed along with your 2013 AFL Membership card in early February (for members who renew by January 25, 2013).

Alternatively, click here for details on when Members can access reserved seats and guest passes for MCG and Etihad Stadium matches.

  • How do I update my contact information?

To update your address, telephone number and email address please log on to MyAFLAccount using the Members Login on the left hand side of this page or contact AFL Membership via phone on 1300 722 515 or email to membership@afl.com.au.

Please refer to your renewal invoice for your password to access MyAFLAccount.

  • I am an AFL Silver Member, where do I find my waitlist number for Full Membership?

Your waitlist number for Full Membership is found on your 2013 AFL Membership renewal form.

This number will be upgraded each year once Full Member upgrades are completed and will be communicated on your membership renewal invoice from 2013. When Full Member upgrades are completed in June 2013, we will advise all AFL Silver Members how many members were upgraded to Full Membership via email and on aflmembership.com.au to ensure all members are aware of the process and where they are in the queue.

  • What if I am an AFL Silver Member and I don’t have a waitlist number?

If you do not have a waitlist number provided on your letter, it indicates that you have declined an offer of upgrade in the past and your number has been bypassed. Should you wish to take up a Full Membership, please contact the AFL Membership Service Centre to put your name in the upgrade database for the following season.
  • I am a new AFL Member and do not have an AFL Full Membership waiting list number. When will I receive this?

New AFL Members will not receive an AFL Full Membership waiting list number until after July, 2013 when the AFL Membership Service Centre have finalised the AFL Full Membership upgrades for 2013.

New AFL Members will be advised of their waiting list number on their 2014 AFL Membership renewal form which will be sent in November.
  • I am using the AFL Advance payment plan program and my credit card details need to be updated. How can I do this?

AFL Members who are using AFL Advance will be required to update their credit card details should they change throughout the year to maintain their monthly instalments. The AFL Membership Service Centre will send a reminder to members whose credit cards are due to expire in the subsequent month to provide their new expiry date.
  • I want to attend a match at Etihad Stadium with more nonmembers than the guest pass limits allow. What do I do?

AFL Members wishing to attend an Etihad Stadium match with more non-members than guest pass limits allow can do so by sitting in the Level 3 general admission area. All your guests will need to do is urchase a general admission ticket. AFL Members can also sit in the public areas of Level 1 and 2 with nonmembers by paying the premium reserved seat fee applicable to each area.

  • How can I keep up to date with AFL Members’ ticketing arrangements for matches at the MCG and Etihad Stadium throughout the season?

The 'Around the Grounds' email subscription is a weekly update sent each Thursday advising members of available walk-up areas for matches at the MCG and Etihad Stadium. The 'In the Know' email subscription is a monthly ticketing email providing direct ticket links to purchase reserved seating and guest passes and includes match upgrade information. 'In The Know' will also be sent throughout the season advising of match upgrades as soon as we find out.

  • Am I able to upgrade a guest pass provided directly from the AFL Membership Service Centre to a reserved seat?

Guest passes from the MCG AFL Reserve Guest Pass Packs, Absentee Guest Passes or Platinum Privilege Guest Passes can be upgraded via all Ticketek channels.

  • Does AFL Membership provide entry to other events at the MCG or Etihad Stadium?

AFL Members have entry entitlements only to AFL matches and International Cricket matches at the MCG. The AFL has a long-standing agreement with Cricket Australia allowing us to manage a reduced capacity AFL Reserve at the MCG throughout their summer events.
  • I have misplaced my AFL Membership card. How do I arrange for another AFL Membership card to be sent?

If your AFL  Membership card has been misplaced, you will be required to make payment of $25 to replace the membership card (a $50 fee applies during the 2013 Toyota AFL Finals Series).

Upon receipt of your payment, your original barcode will be cancelled so that no one else can utilise your membership, and a new barcode will be applied to your account.

The new barcode can be viewed under 'Edit Personal Preferences' within your personal MyAFLAccount page and your new AFL Membership card will be forwarded within 10 working days.

To make payment for the $25 replacement fee and arrange for a new card to be mailed, please contact the AFL Membership Service Centre on 1300 722 515.

  • When will the information for the 2013 Toyota AFL Finals series be distributed?

The 2013 AFL Members Finals Information Brochure will be distributed to AFL Members throughout August in time for the start of the 2013 Toyota AFL Finals Series.
  • As an AFL Silver Member, can I access tickets to the 2013 Toyota AFL Grand Final?

AFL Silver Members do not have Toyota AFL Grand Final entitlements included in their package. AFL Silver Members will only be offered the opportunity to purchase tickets in the AFL Reserve should AFL Full Members not utilise the entire allocation of AFL Membership Toyota AFL Grand Final tickets.

If tickets are made available to Silver Members, a priority period is offered to those members with a Club Support package for either of the competing teams. If a Silver Member has a Club Support package for either competing team, they may be able to access a ticket through their club's ticket allocation in the public section of the ground. Members will need to clarify eligibility and the ticket selling process directly with their club of support.

  • As an AFL Silver Member, can I purchase Toyota AFL Finals Series upgrade or priority packages directly through my club of support?

An AFL Member with a Club Support package is classified as a member of their nominated club. Therefore, if the club has a Toyota AFL Finals Series upgrade or priority package available, you will be entitled to purchase one. To find out more about club Toyota AFL Finals Series upgrade or priority packages, please contact your club of support's membership department.
